Facial Orientation During Multi-party Interaction with Information Kiosks

چکیده
We hypothesize that the performance of multimodal perceptive user interfaces during multi-party interaction may be improved by using facial orientation of users as a cue for identifying the addressee of a user utterance. Multi-party interactions were collected in a user test where one participant would both interact with an information kiosk and negotiate with another person about the information to be obtained. It was found that users indeed look at the system when they speak to the system, but that they also look at the system most of the time when they negotiate with the other person. It is concluded that facial orientation by itself does not fully identify the addressee of a user utterance, but there are promising results for a combination of facial orientation and utterance length.

Group Behaviours around Public Displays ( Technical Report CS - 2011 - 24 )
Information kiosks often decorate large public areas to provide basic information to inquisitive patrons. This paper presents an observational study examining groups interacting with public kiosks. We identify fundamental issues regarding patterns in user orientation and layout, group identification, and behaviour both within and between social groups during the entire period of interaction. Ba...
متن کاملMulti-Party Quantum Dialogue with the Capability to Expand the Number of Users at Runtime
Quantum dialogue is a type of quantum communication in which users can simultaneously send messages to each other. The earliest instances of quantum dialogue protocols faced security problems such as information leakage and were vulnerable to intercept and resend attacks. Therefore, several protocols have been presented that try to solve these defects. Despite these improvements, the quantum di...

Discusses and analyses the latest generation of information kiosks, Kiosks 21, which features information provision/promotion, interaction, transaction and relationships. In contrast to their task based predecessors, these kiosks focus on customer service delivery to ̳customers in context‘. Five case studies of such kiosks located respectively in an airport, railway station, car rental base, ho...
متن کاملHybridization of Facial Features and Use of Multi Modal Information for 3D Face Recognition
Despite of achieving good performance in controlled environment, the conventional 3D face recognition systems still encounter problems in handling the large variations in lighting conditions, facial expression and head pose The humans use the hybrid approach to recognize faces and therefore in this proposed method the human face recognition ability is incorporated by combining global and local ...
متن کاملVisual Estimation of Attentive Cues in HRI: The Case of Torso and Head Pose
Capturing visual human-centered information is a fundamental input source for effective and successful human-robot interaction (HRI) in dynamic multi-party social settings. Torso and head pose, as forms of nonverbal communication, support the derivation people’s focus of attention, a key variable in the analysis of human behaviour in HRI paradigms encompassing social aspects. Towards this goal,...
